Joshua Tree NP trip 2008

Joshua tree national park is more like Flintstone land! Located on the San Bernardino/Riverside border it’s home to the Joshua tree (Yucca). Apparently these are really famous to rock climbers, and scrambling enthusiast. Depending on which entrance you enter the park through you will see big rocks piled on top of each other. When I say big I mean enormous, in photos they look like pebbles just tossed in a little section on the side of the road. Here are some panoramas:

Sometimes there’s fires at Joshua tree, man caused and possibly even nature started. Not sure how this tree caught on fire but it made a great photographic subject. I saw this tree and envisioned it silhouetted against the sun, turned out pretty good.

Joshua tree bring all sorts of people into its desert, from rock climbers to birdwatchers and everything in between. We don’t fit into any category but enjoyed many of the parks natural resources. ☺ Like rock balancing…something I’ve picked up lately the method I use is “Balanced Stacking”

Another Key feature about Joshua tree is Skull Rock you walk by it and at first it just seems like a normal rock, then you take a second look and it looks like a skull! AAH!

Of course you gotta throw in some wonderful textures. These will make great Photoshop brushes and desktop backgrounds.

Joshua tree is a great place to visit: easy to get to, easy camping, no backcountry permits required, just about anything you can ask for a short weekend trip.

Things to bring if you plan on visiting Joshua Tree National Park:

  • Bring sun screen! A MUST you WILL burn…
  • Bring Plenty of water (the sun can get scorching hot, especially if you do any hiking)
  • Be ready for weather changes bring a light waterproof jacket
  • Bring a camera, :P make sure you get yourself next to those huge boulders…
